6 years ago I began in health and fitness with a NASM Personal Trainer Certification. I worked as a Master Trainer at a corporate gym for 3 years. My clients saw results, but I became disillusioned, realizing that my job was to sell a workout as their only solution.
Ultimately, their results came from changes to their mindsets and lifestyle habits, not how many pounds they could squat.
My own relationship with food has been difficult. I knew all the rules and I taught my clients to do them but did not always practice them myself. With youth, consistent weight lifting, and binges on “health food,” I got away with a lot of bad habits, but not without guilt and shame.
In recent years I discovered how to savor food, enjoy exercise, and take control over the thoughts motivating my behavior. I applied the same practices that helped my clients and have acquired a few more along the way.
